Intern Program

"DMG's intern program was
one of the best experiences
I've had in my early career. I learned more about how the news media works than my entire time as an under-graduate in the classroom."

2014-15 Media Intern
DMG offers students the opportunity to combine academic studies with on-the-job training and experience, while completing their education.

We currently offer academic and experience internships to qualified undergraduate and graduate students attending accredited U.S. colleges and universities interested in gaining practical news media experience and, who have a strong interest in a career with print, broadcast or web media outlets.

Working under the guidance of the News Director and the rest of our team, interns participate in the daily operations of the firm. Students become familiar with the challenges and rewards of working in the media in a variety of assignments both within the production suite and in the field.

Candidates wishing to be considered for an internship must complete and submit an application and complete the placement process, which includes a screening interview, a secondary interview, establish a regular schedule and attend required training.

DMG will make efforts to comply with individual school requirements for those participants seeking academic credit  for  their internship.
An intern should be available 8 hours and no more than 20 hours per week. No stipends are provided.

This internship program is designed to foster awareness of all aspects of working in the media, along with cultivating the principles of journalistic ethics -- honesty, respect, fairness and political neutrality. We believe this approach provides experiences necessary to successfully transition into the media workforce.

Our internship program is a key component of our Mission Statement, which demonstrates our commitment to developing talent that possess a comprehensive understanding of our industry. Past interns have found rewarding careers with media firms around the country and also have the opportunity to become part or full-time DMG employees.

Only one applicant is selected per academic year, with selection based on the criteria contained within the application, with additional consideration given to a qualified applicant who can start as soon as our Media Intern position becomes vacant. There is no deadline per se, but students should apply as early as possible before the start of the new academic year.
